Health services are provided through 2 hospitals ,2 health centers, and 33 dispensaries as both for prevention and cure. Among the 10 major diseases prevailing in Karagwe, Malaria and HIV/AIDS are leading ones.The table below depicts health distribution in the district.
Health Stakeholders
Health services in Karagwe District is provided in corraboration between various stakeholders such as Central Government, and Local and International Organisation as followed:
Central Government.
Our service at large depends on support from central Government.We receive grant (PE and OC) and medicine from Medical Store Department (MSD).
Religious Organisation
Karagwe District Council has collaboration with Lutheran Church(KKKT) diocise of Karagwe and Roman Catholic Church diocise of Kayanga on provision of medical care services.Moreover KKKT provides inhouse medical care support for HIV AIDS patients.
These organisations help in the improvement of health facilities like building Doctors' houses,purchasing furnitures,and installation of solar panel energy at health centers of Ruhita, Rugu, and Nkwenda. Also they provide awareness about prevention measure of malaria by supplying mosquitor nets.
Non Goverment Organisation(NGO's)
The council in collaboration with the Karagwe Development And Relief Service (KARADES) is receiving medical equipments and drugs through DRI.
Also the council has close frindshipn with DANIDA through it's project of Demand Driven District Capacity Building (D3CB).
ACORD oganisation is another partner with the Council which is mainly concerned with fighting on HIV AIDS spread.It has already created network for affected pepole in the District for provision of support.
BTC organisation,is participated in the formulation of Primary Health Care (PHC) project.
Disease Analysis
1.AIDS
With collaboration of health stakeholders like ELCT,WOMEDA,WORLD VISION, and ICAP,the Council has managed to reduce spreading of new infections from 7% in the year 1996,to 4.8% in 2010
2.MALARIA
The District Council has successed to minimize malaria infenctions through the following measures. By the use of vaccinating households with Anti Mosquitor spray,and the free offering mosquitor nets
